ollaborative innovation between AI and humans: An Exciting Journey Beyond the Game of Go - As a computer vision engineer at LINDERA who has been deeply immersed in the world of computer vision and data science, the story of AlphaGo was of course not an unfamiliar chapter to me.

AlphaGo vs. Lee Sedol: Milestone in AI development

Nevertheless, a recent company screening of the documentary "AlphaGo" left a lasting impression on me. The screening of this movie gave me a fresh perspective on the enormity of this AI achievement and how it intersects with technology, innovation and human achievement.

In the dynamic world of Artificial Intelligence, "AlphaGo" stands as a monumental example of human ingenuity and the sheer immeasurable potential of AI.

This revolutionary AI program has reshaped the imagination of what machines are capable of and its reach extends far beyond the chessboard. The film takes us through the origins of DeepMind's AlphaGo and the audacious challenge to one of the world's leading Go players, Lee Sedol. The gripping atmosphere during these duels is almost palpable.

With masterful precision, the documentary captures the emotional ups and downs that play out between AlphaGo and Lee Sedol over the course of their intellectual duel.

AlphaGo's victory marked a turning point in AI research, proving that artificial intelligence with sophisticated algorithms and complex neural networks is capable of mastering challenging and strategic tasks - tasks once thought to be the exclusive preserve of the human mind.

Human-AI synergy: from AlphaGo to the LINDERA SDK

This breakthrough has inspired researchers and developers worldwide to break new ground in AI. At the same time, Lee Sedol's achievement in the movie powerfully illustrates human resilience, adaptability and the enduring importance of human intelligence in the era of AI.

For me, as someone who works with artificial intelligence (AI) on a daily basis, the movie "AlphaGo" triggered a complex chaos of emotions. The advances in AI depicted in the movie filled me with pride. But the challenge posed to humans by AlphaGo also aroused ambivalent emotions. Furthermore, I realized that the actual outcome of the game was secondary.

The essence of AI was never about defeating humans, but rather about helping humanity expand its capacities, progress and develop innovative solutions to complex problems. The historic match between man and machine is symbolic of the synergistic strength of human and artificial intelligence.

This realization is also reflected in our current LINDERA SDK (L-Tech) project of Human Pose Estimation (HPE) , which plays a key role in the interaction between humans and AI. While AlphaGo is dedicated to strategic thinking, HPE focuses on understanding human postures and movements.

This involves analyzing image or video data to recognize and precisely interpret the positions and orientations of human joints or body parts using advanced mathematical models and deep learning methods.

How do we see collaborative innovation between AI and humans?

Improved therapeutic analysis

In the field of physiotherapy, AI-assisted estimation of human posture has proven to be a game changer. Physiotherapists, rehabilitation specialists and patients can use this technology to gain invaluable insights to optimize therapeutic exercises.

By tracking body movements, analyzing technique and recognizing patterns, human posture estimation enables accurate biomechanical analysis, injury prevention and exercise improvement across a range of therapeutic disciplines.

Revolutionizing the healthcare industry

AI-assisted human posture estimation is also making waves in the healthcare sector. Thanks to its ability to analyze body movements, this technology can help in the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal and neurological disorders . Physiotherapists and doctors can use AI to objectively assess their patients' progress, prescribe personalized exercises and monitor rehabilitation remotely to improve treatment outcomes.

Improving human-robot interaction

In the fields of robotics, human posture estimation plays an important role in improving human-robot interaction. By accurately recognizing human pose, robots can understand and respond to human gestures, making them more intuitive and user-friendly.

This opens up opportunities for collaborative robots, virtual assistants and even humanoid robots that can be seamlessly integrated into various fields such as manufacturing, healthcare and the home.

Further development of virtual and augmented reality

AI-supported estimation of human posture is a crucial component for enriching virtual and augmented reality experiences.

By accurately tracking human poses, these technologies can create immersive and interactive environments where virtual objects interact seamlessly with the real world. From gaming and entertainment to virtual training simulations and architectural design, the fusion of AI and human pose estimation is pushing the boundaries of digital experiences.

These applications demonstrate the versatility and importance of human pose estimation across industries and domains, from healthcare and technology to entertainment and education. It continues to drive innovation and improve human-machine interaction in today's connected world.

Whether in the AlphaGo movie or in my day-to-day work, whether AlphaGo or HPE, I have come to deeply realize that the human spirit remains at the heart of every technological marvel when it comes to driving progress. The relationship between AI and the human future is one of mutual influence.

While AI is changing the way we live and work, humans are determining the direction and purpose of AI.

Let's embrace this symbiotic relationship and seize the opportunities it presents. The future is not far away. This is what dancing into the future through collaborative innovation between AI and humans looks like at LINDERA.
